Enterprise launches energy saving programme

08 June 2010

Although it isn't something that will affect customers renting a car in Edinburgh just yet, it may be a plan which could be replicated in Enterprise's UK branches if successful.

The global car rental company which is based in St Louis over in the USA and is responsible for various car hire brands such as Enterprise, Alamo and National has recently announced plans which it claims will reduce the amount of energy used by the group as a whole by 20% over the next five years.

The ambitious plan which has been named 20/20 Vision should allow Enterprise to reduce their energy bills by roughly $50 million which can only mean lower car rental rates for customers in the long term.

The programme has already begun in some areas including the company's headquarters which has had all the lighting replaced in it's garage with a more efficient system that claims a saving of around $50,000 each year.

Enterprise's Director of Sustainability, Lee Broughton, said that "reducing energy consumption was a great way to reduce the company's environmental impact whilst also saving money". He also stated that individual branch managers were being asked to come up with ways to reduce the amount of energy being used.
