Excess insurance is often an unnecessary expense
14 June 2010
A new report has suggested that British holidaymakers are wasting hundreds of millions of pounds every year on excess insurance from car hire firms.
The report, published by iCarhireinsurance.com, claims that customers who use rental vehicles throughout Europe spend over £1 billion on making sure that the vehicles they hire are covered for the excess on any damage and that sadly much of this is totally unnecessary.
According to their research, iCarhireinsurance.com claim that around 45% of hire car drivers will take out excess insurance designed to protect them from hefty bills in the event of any damage to the car. The average price for this type of additional insurance is around £10 per day.
iCarhireinsurance.com claims that those who think ahead should be able to pick up excess insurance online before they travel for around £2.99 per day. At those prices, drivers could save themselves up to £50 per week on European car hire.
