British holidaymakers book well in advance
21 June 2010
A new report released by the online travel website Expedia.com has suggested that British travellers like to book their trips well in advance and regularly choose pre packaged deals. Interestingly, Monday evenings is the busiest time for bookings on Expedia's UK website and only one in every ten customers waits until the weekend to book their holiday. The traditional day of rest, Sunday, is noted as being the quietest day for the website.
The figures released in the report showed that around 40% of bookings are made for four star accommodation. It was also discovered that the Brits may have more expensive tastes than some of their European cousins in Denmark and Germany who on average spend 20% less on their trips. However, many Europeans don't travel too far from home with more than 50% of the 20 most popular destinations on Expedia being within the European Union. Infact, over a quarter of these destinations were within the UK including Edinburgh, Manchester and London.
With the recent economic downturn many Britons decide to holiday at home rather than spend money on expensive flights and hotels. For those in Scotland it's easy and cost effective to
rent a car in Edinburgh and tour the beautiful Scottish countryside.
