London hotel offers it's guests free 'green' car rental

28 June 2010

A hotel based in Central London has began offering it's guests free rental of environmentally friendly cars throughout their stay. In a pioneering move, the hotel is supporting the London Mayor, Boris Johnson's, policies to see the English capital become the 'electric capital of Europe'.

The hotel, Base2stay, in the Kensington area of London is offering customers up to four hours of free motoring in a new Citroen EV'ie throughout the summer season. The car, which is supplied by eco car rental company Move About, can be recharged for free at the hotel and allows four passengers and a driver to get to a top speed of 60mph on a range of 75 miles per charge.

After September the car will be available for hire at rates of around £20 for a half day or £30 for a full day. The hotel claims that these rates are actually cheaper than bike hire in the capital. In London, electric vehicles don't need to pay congestion charges and can also receive discounts for parking.

Could we see a similar scheme at Edinburgh hotels in the future? For now you can search for Edinburgh car rental on our site and find the cheapest rates in the city quickly and simply.
